Thank you from the Bilezikjian family

Dear Friends and Family,

The Bilezikjian family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, kindness and support shown to us during the hours of our bereavement. May God Bless and Keep You!

It was John’s wish that his funeral reflect his deep commitment of his faith to God and Jesus Christ. As you know his parents & family were devote believers in family and the Armenian Traditions. So much so, that John and I decided that I should be baptized at St. James Armenian Church—it was a private ceremony with John as my Godfather.

I wish to thank all of you for your cards, letters, gifts, phone calls and donations. I was personally overwhelmed by the outpouring of people present at the Funeral Mass and also at the Hokehankist (40th day of passing).

John particularly wanted to have a dinner to honor his parents for the tenth year of their passing, but due to illness and limited funds we were unable to do it until now.

There is no way I could adequately show you my appreciation for everything you’ve done.

With love and sincere gratitude,

Helen Bilezikjian

John Bilezikjian

Dear Friends,

Now in existence for only 3 years, The John Bilezikjian Foundation continues to strive to expand its programs and offerings to the community. We hope that you will be able to take part in one or more of the many projects that we are offering this year and experience firsthand the pride we take in supporting our cause.

We have enclosed a brochure with our Mission Statement and our Goals. In order to meet our mission and support our Vision we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of friends and individuals like you, we wouldn’t have been able to fund the “The Magic of John Bilezikjian” Concert at the La Mirada Performing Arts Theater our first year.

We ask that you make a commitment to support our annual appeal by making a cash donation. This year our goal is $ 20,000, and we hope to meet that commitment. Your generosity will make a difference in our community by allowing us to continue in our work. If you would like to have a fund-raising Tea, Brunch, or Party to help us raise money for the foundation, please contact us.

Information about how to donate is contained in the brochure.
Thank You,

Sincerely and with gratitude,

Helen Bilezikjian

John BilezikjianAs you know, John has been diagnosed with kidney failure. For three years he has been playing and performing with a hemosplit catheter in his upper chest. Because of it’s proximity to his main artery, heart, and lung it exposes these vital organs to possible infection. Because John is not considered a candidate for a kidney transplant, the pressure to place a fistula in his arm is increasing. His doctor is insisting on it happening this year. As a musician, you can understand how difficult this could make it for him to play.

Several good friends joined together to start a foundation in his name—John Bilezikjian Foundation. This is their way of giving back to John for his contributions as a virtuoso musician, faithful friend, and mentor to those who come to him for the invaluable education only he can give. It will allow him to continue writing and performing whenever he can. Also, his legacy for the future will be his music, written and recorded. His only request of the foundation is to allow him to do a concert and have it recorded—”The Magic of John Bilezikjian”. The John Bilezikjian foundation created this annual fund raising event, a benefit concert, for John to do just that.

So please, donate. You may call me directly at 949-581-5694 to request a packet of information.

Thank you for your generosity and understanding.

John and Helen BelizikjianTARZANA, CA – World renowned oudist John Bilezikjian and his wife, singer Helen Bilezikjian, treated the Providence Tarzana Medical Staff at the Tarzana Hospital for the Medical Education with a festive musical program. The lyrical celebration was the brainchild of Dr. Avrum Bluming.

Dr. Bluming had heard John perform at Theodore Bikel’s home and was impressed with both John’s musical skill on the oud and his knowledge about the unique instrument. Dr. Bluming contacted Susan Pines, the Medical Education Coordinator for Tarzana Hospital, to arrange the special entertainment for the staff.

In addition to playing the oud, John provided his audience, some of whom might never even have heard of an oud, with information about the instrument’s history and origins. Helen, a trained opera singer, sang several selections.

Audience participation was invited during a question and answer period at which time inquiries were made about the John Bilezikjian Foundation. The foundation was formed to ensure the continuation of John’s musical legacy. Theodore Bikel, at whose home Dr. Bluming first heard John play, is one of the foundation’s major contributors.

It is my mission to present the special music of the oud to as many people as possible,” said John. “It was an honor to perform for the dedicated staff at Tarzana Hospital and I was grateful to be able to share my love for the oud with them.”

The John Bilezikjian Foundation is a non-profit organization created to honor the lifetime achievements of John Bilezikjian in music and education, and to support those striving to continue his legacy. For more information, please call 1-855-OUDDIST (683-3478) or visit the website at
